Spring Training Recap – 2/26/24

Final Score: CHI 0 | KC 6

Overall Spring Record: 3-1

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Nick Pratto: A three-run bomb is a great way to start the 1st inning of a game! That is exactly what Nick did in the bottom of the 1st to give the Royals a 3-0 lead they would never relinquish. After back-to-back singles by Michael Massey and newly acquired Austin Nola, Pratto smacked a ball over the centerfield fence on a 3-2 count. He knows how to draw a walk, but it is refreshing to see Pratto not hesitating to make a pitcher pay on a full count. On top of the home run, Pratto was hit by a pitch and flew out to left in his other two at-bats.

Seth Lugo: In his first spring training game as a Royal, Lugo pitched two scoreless innings with one hit, one walk, and one strikeout. He threw 27 pitches total (16 strikes) and worked around a couple of baserunners in the 2nd inning by inducing a double play. Lugo will be an integral piece in the Royals rotation this season, so it is good to see him getting off to a good start in his first appearance of the year.

Carter Jensen: Jensen continues to find ways to get on base. In today’s game, he could do that via an RBI double and walk in his two at-bats. In his first five at-bats of spring training, he has drawn a pair of walks and hit an RBI double, while his two outs have both come via strikeout.

Walter Pennington: Pennington has looked fantastic to the start of the spring. Through 2 innings pitched he has recorded 6 Ks. Yep, you read that right. Every out via strikeout, and not a baserunner allowed. He hopes to build off a strong 2023 season where he managed a 3.18 ERA and 1.29 WHIP between NW Arkansas and Omaha.
