Key Highlights
Brady Singer: For this season to reach its full potential, Brady Singer needs to be an integral part of it. Today proved that he might be ready for that challenge. Singer tossed three scoreless innings, only allowing one hit, and striking out three. After the game, Singer thought he “had good command” and “was able to use all of them, and mix it around the zone”.
The sweeper looked good, he located his slider well and was able to bite back with the fastball combo. We know this: when Brady’s on, he’s on. And usually, that comes from when he’s mixing his pitches well. Add a couple of pitches to that repertoire, and now the batter is dazed and confused trying to guess which way the ball will break. It’s not fun. Brady’s so good, he made pitching ninja. Enjoy him carving them up.
Tyler Gentry: Most of the offense from the afternoon came off the bat of Tyler Gentry. Most came courtesy of his three-run blast in the bottom half of the seventh. Gentry scored a couple of times today, and his sole hit was the aforementioned bomb. Our very own Preston Farr has been waiting in agony for this moment for the past week, and the moment in the sun has come. Gentry could create a bit of a good problem for the organization if he continues to play well in the spring. MJ Melendez and Nelson Velazquez are probably ahead of him at the moment in time, but Gentry could force his way onto the roster if his power prowess continues to grow.
Alec Marsh: Some chat around spring training so far has been the attitude of Alec Marsh. He wants to be a part of this team and feels like he’s got a spot and he belongs. Today, he pitched like he belonged. He had three scoreless innings, striking out four, and only allowing a hit. The best part about the outing? Marsh didn’t allow a walk at all. He’s got some serious gas in the tank as well, so if he were to come out of the bullpen, who knows what could happen? There’s some uncertainty about what his role will be on this staff, but when you pitch like that, they have to make room for you somewhere.
