Brady Singer struggles, Nick Pratto continues to stay hot – ST Recap: 3/10/24

Final Score: KC 3 | OAK 6

Overall Spring Record: 11-5

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Brady Singer was not sharp in this outing: This is definitely a start that Brady Singer will want to forget. He’s been dominant all spring but really struggled in this one. He gave up six earned runs over 2.1 innings pitched, allowing seven hits and only striking out one. He also gave up a home run to Abraham Toro. Royals Weekly pointed out that he lost some velocity in the second inning and was only 91-92 mph. This is kind of a make-or-break year for Singer. Hopefully, this will be a blip on the radar.

Nick Pratto stays hot, goes yard: Nick Pratto continued his torrid spring by hitting a three-run home run off Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Paul Blackburn. He finished the day 2-for-3 with three RBI and a walk. Pratto has been making some noise, and many analysts have been paying attention. If he keeps it up, he could push Vinnie Pasquantino to DH, and Nelson Velazques could find himself starting in the minor leagues. The Royals have always loved the gold glove caliber defense that Pratto brings to the table, but there have always been some questions around the bat. He has some swing-and-miss issues and struggles to pick up spin occasionally. It could still be a long shot for Pratto to crack the opening-day roster, but the Royals are giving him chances to prove himself this spring, and he is taking full advantage of them.
