The Kansas City Royals continued their early season hot streak on Thursday with a dominant win over the Houston Astros. On a hot streak of his own is first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino. He’s struggled early this season but broke out in a big way on Wednesday with a five-RBI performance. He collected three more hits in Thursday’s win along with three more RBI. Pasquantino is starting to lock in at the plate which is great news for an offense that’s already firing on all cylinders.

Bobby Witt Jr.: 4-5, 2 HR, 5 RBI

Not to be outdone by Pasquantino’s five-RBI night on Wednesday, “King Bob” notched his own five-RBI game on Thursday. Bobby hit his third and fourth home runs of the season in the process. In all, he had four hits on the day as well as a stolen base — his third of the year. Although the season started with high hopes for the Kansas City shortstop, it’s tough to imagine that anyone expected this level of dominance from Witt Jr. this early in the season. After starting slow each of his first two seasons, Witt has started 2024 with a .358 batting average and a 1.169 OPS.

Other Highlights

The Royals offense was again on display Thursday. After a seven-run third inning on Wednesday, they pieced together a nine-run first inning on Thursday. Every Royals starter notched at least one hit on the day and the team put together 16 in total. The dominance on both sides of the baseball has helped the Royals achieve the best run differential in the major leagues to this point.

Although overshadowed by the offensive firepower, starter Brady Singer put together his own strong showing on the day. Singer allowed just one earned run over five full innings against a strong Houston lineup. The bullpen’s scoreless inning streak ended at 19.1, but Matt Sauer and Jordan Lyles both pitched scoreless innings to help cement the win.

The Royals are on the road to New York tonight. They’ll kick off a three-game set against the New York Mets on Friday. Game One features Michael Wacha against Luis Severino. The Mets are 5-7 on the season.
