Royals roster moves ahead of the 6pm EST deadline

It came down to the wire but the Royals have made their slew of roster moves ahead of today’s Rule 5 deadline. Unsurprisingly, Kansas City selected the contracts of OF Tyler Gentry and RHP Will Klein. In corresponding moves, the team designated Josh Staumont and Logan Porter for assignment.

Trade talks picking up

Jon Morosi reports that MLB trade talks are picking up ahead of Tuesday’s roster deadline.

The Red are seen as “increasingly likely to trade 2B Jonathan India.

The Padres are exploring Scott Barlow trades.

Royals beat writer, Anne Rogers, takes a look at the Royals roster deadline decisions. She discusses the usual — Will Klein, Tyler Gentry, Christian Chamberlain — but also spends a lot of time on Asa Lacy.

Lacy does still possess the stuff that excites teams with an upper-90s fastball and nasty breaking stuff. For that reason, a team could select him, put him on the injured list and find out what’s going on physically. That could also mean the Royals would want to protect him, knowing that they also gave him a $6.667 million signing bonus when he was drafted. But given how little Lacy has been on the mound since becoming a Royal, it wouldn’t be a major surprise to see him go unprotected.

The Phillies and Brewers have reportedly agreed to a minor league trade. Moore was a second round pick in 2022.

MLB Network Insider Jon Morosi is reporting that Tyler Glasnow could be available for trade as early as today.

The Nationals have designated Dominic Smith and Cory Abbott for assignment. In a related move they added prospects DJ Herz and Mitchell Parker to the 40-man roster. Parker was featured on my National League Rule 5 preview.

The Cardinals selected the contracts of Sem Robberse, Adam Kloffenstein, and Pedro Pages. As a result, Connor Thomas, Packy Naughton, and Wilking Rodriguez have been removed from the 40-man roster.

The Athletics have selected LHP Brady Basso, RHP Royber Salinas, and INF Darell Hernaiz.

The Mariners have selected the contract of OF Zach DeLoach, designating Mike Ford for assignment in a corresponding move.

The White Sox selected LHP Jake Eder and Cristian Mena. Eder was listed on my American League Rule 5 preview.

The Rockies have added Adael Amador, Yanquiel Fernandez, Juan Mejia, and Angel Chivilli.

The Tigers have selected the contracts of Wilmer Flores and Dillon Dingler.

The Reds have selected the contracts of Christian Roa, Jacob Hurtibise, and Rece Hinds. Hurtibise and Roa were targets on my Rule 5 preview.

The Astros have selected the contract of Kenedy Corona.

The Rays have selected the contract of Austin Shenton and the Yankees selected Clayton Beeter — both prospects from our Rule 5 landscape deep dive.

The Twins have selected Emmanuel Rodriguez and Austin Martin.

The Rangers have selected Justin Foscue and Antoine Kelly.

In a somewhat surprising move, the Guardians have DFA’d Cal Quantrill. The move allowed them to add Cade Smith to the 40-man roster.

The Giants have selected the contract of Kai-Wei Teng.

The Padres selected Jairo Iriarte.

Miami selected the contract of Victor Mesa Jr.

The Dodgers have selected the contract of Nick Frasso and Landon Knack.

More to come. Stay tuned!
