Hey Preston, great work this year keeping us updated on the minor leagues.   before the signing of the veterans I thought we might see more of Loftin in KC this year.  Long term do you believe Vaz overtakes Loftin as a prospect.  Will Loftin ever cement a role in KC?

Hey there. Thank you!

I think Loftin's role lies more in a depth piece or utility man moving forward. Even when chances were there this season, Loftin simply was unable to take hold of them. I'm not entirely out on him at all, but Vaz is quite a ways ahead of him in my eyes.

Vaz makes elite contact and offers more speed and defensive value than Loftin. Vaz won't offer the same sort of power potential that Loftin has, but he'll make up for it with his ability to hit for average. I view Loftin as a former prospect who could carve a role in Kansas City (similar to Tyler Gentry). Vaz, on the other hand, is a bonafide top prospect with a chance to become an everyday big leaguer.

@prestonfarr Seems reasonable.  Loftin has been around a while.  And I felt the writing was on the wall when they brought in Frazier and Hampsen.  Seems like a wiff on a draft pick.

@mellio59 Yeah, for sure. That 2020 draft was awful across the board for many. For a time it looked like Gentry would be something, but he has sort of fallen to the side the same way Loftin has.

Klein is the only pick from that draft that's given KC any real value and he did so by being traded.
