Naturals Avoid Being Swept After Rough Final Series

Second Half Record: 31-37

In the season’s final series, the Naturals went 1-5 following a combined lack of offense and pitching. The first game was a barnburner with an 11-15 final score. The sole win came from a seven-run outburst in the fourth game of the series. It wasn’t the best way to end the season, but it sums up the season for the Naturals quite well. From game to game, they struggled to hit well when pitching was able to shut down opponents. Contrastingly, the pitching struggled to keep the team in the game when the offense was able to produce. There were bright spots throughout the week and a couple of guys shined during the final series of the season.

Pitcher of the Week

Ben Kudrna went five innings in his start this week giving up zero runs, one hit, two walks, and striking out nine. It is his best start at the AA level since his promotion, showing off his ability to miss bats at an elite level. So far in Northwest Arkansas, Kudrna has allowed a .284 opponent batting average with a 1.55 WHIP. His 48 strikeouts in 45.2 innings were positive, however, the 21 walks and 50 hits allowed were a hindrance to his upside. This start established his ability to reverse these trends and remain elite as a starter. It was a great finish to the season and a leaping pad for his 2025 season that will assuredly begin in AA.

Hitter of the Week

Fellow local prospect Carter Jensen had a big week at the plate. Playing in all six games, Jensen hit two home runs, batted .333, and totaled four extra-base hits. His power and on-base ability have been the upside since his drafting. With an average to pair, Jensen could skyrocket as an elite prospect who can headline a future big-league offense. Jensen’s slugging improved as he went to AA, jumping 45 points to .480. This week’s slugging percentage was an otherworldly .762, showing what he is capable of in short stints. It was a refreshing final week for Jensen as the average has struggled to maintain since his jump to Springdale.

What’s Next

The Naturals missed the playoffs and have concluded their 2024 season. There were plenty of ups and downs, however there was always a standout amongst the squad. With many top 30 prospects from the Royals organization, the Naturals found plenty of success individually. We look forward to 2025 as we will see even more talent find its way into Northwest Arkansas!
