2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 K

Not much went right for the Royals in this game. Seth Lugo wasn’t sharp and the offense came out flat and couldn’t change the tire. After Lugo left the game after five innings, Kris Bubic came in to keep it close. He would do that and do it in dominate fashion throwing 21 pitches only allowing a hit and getting some swings and misses. Bubic has looked very good since his return from the IL and could be an answer to the lackluster bullpen the Royals have had in the first half.

Key Highlights

There isn’t much in the way of highlights in this game. The Royals only had four hits as an offense and didn’t look competitive for most of the game. The offense had some opportunities to put a run on the board, but went 0-for-4 with RISP. Outside of Lugo’s bad outing, Bubic and Nick Anderson would shut out the Red Sox in their three innings of work.

Summary of the Next Game

With the All-Star break around the corner, the Royals have the rubber match against the Red Sox. In their last game before the break the Royals will send out Brady Singer (5-5, 2.93 ERA) and the Red Sox will send Bryan Bello (9-5, 5.40 ERA) to the mound in the finale. The Royals are looking to finish the first half strong and a series win against another AL wildcard team would do that.
