Royals Player of the Game

Vinnie Pasquantino

3-for-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI

On his bobblehead day, Vinnie came to play providing all the offense for the Royals today. He answered the solo shot from Fernando Tatis Jr. with a 2-run shot of his own then gave the Royals the lead on an RBI single in the third. Vinnie had an opportunity to get the cycle as well, only missing out on a triple. Vinnie had a chance to drive in more with the bases loaded late, but failed to get a hit in that situation.

Key Highlights

The offense was not good today outside of Vinnie. Yeah, Vinnie had the chance to get the Royals closer, but it can’t all be on one guy. The team as a whole went 3-for-13 with RISP and Vinnie was 2-for-4 on the day alone. Maikel Garcia continues his hot stretch and starts another hit streak. Bobby Witt Jr. had a hit and a walk to go along with a stolen base. MJ Melendez continues to struggle as Garrett Hampson pinch hit for him, again.

On the pitching side of things, Alec Marsh had another dud. That is back-to-back starts giving up five runs. He once again didn’t have his best stuff, but grinded through five before the bullpen took over. The bullpen had three clean innings from Will Smith, Sam Long, and Chris Stratton before Nick Anderson gave up two in the ninth. A lot of streakiness for the Royals roster at the moment.

Summary of the Next Game

The Royals look to end their three game losing streak in the last game of the series. They will send out Cole Ragans (4-4, 3.49 ERA) in a game that the Royals need after losing six of their last seven games. The Padres will send out Michael King (4-4, 4.09 ERA) who has given up a 1.77 HR/9 this season.
