Royals Spring Training Recap – 3/20/2024

Final Score: LAA 8 | KC 8

Overall Spring Record: 13-11

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Brady Singer

For the second time in his last three outings, Brady has not had his best stuff, to put it lightly. I try to take everything during spring training with a grain of salt, but it is still hard to ignore a player struggling. Here are his combined stats during those two rough starts: 7 IP, 15 H, 13 ER, 5 BB, 4 K. Not ideal, and not the momentum I am sure he was hoping for heading into the regular season. On the flip side, in his three other starts this spring he combined for 9 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 10 K. Quite the mixed bag, but none of that matters starting next Thursday.

Vinnie Pasquantino

The “Pasquatch” is starting to heat up at the right time. After a slow start to the spring, he has worked his average up to .257 with a two-hit, four-RBI game. With the bases loaded in the third inning, Vinnie smoked a line drive over the first basemen’s head for a bases-clearing double. It has been good to see Vinnie get his groove back during the second half of the spring.

Maikel Garcia

Maikel continues to do Maikel things. He ended the night with a walk, single, and RBI. As a leadoff hitter, Garcia’s main job is to find a way to get on base as much as possible so that guys like Witt Jr, Pasquantino, and Salvy can get him around the bases. This spring has been a good start, as he boasts a .346 average and .455 OBP. He also has as many walks as he has strikeouts (6). These are positive signs I am sure he is hoping to see continue into the season.

Will Smith

Smith has had a steady spring so far. He now sits at a 3.86 ERA through 7.0 IP. He has yet to give up more than one run in an outing or see his ERA go above 4.50. Even though he has not been dominant, it is encouraging to see a steady, reliable performer out of the bullpen. A reliable, veteran presence will pay dividends for this bullpen and team as the season wears on.

Kale Emshoff: 1 for 2, HR
