Seth Lugo
7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 10 K, 0 BB
In one of his best starts of the year, Seth Lugo shut down the prolific offense that is the Yankees. After concerns about his performance recently, Lugo quelled those discussions with a gem. He would only allow three baserunners to reach, all on singles, and would get ten strikeouts on the day. The bullpen would follow in his footsteps and also shut the door. Kris Bubic and John Schrieber both got clean sheets and struck out two in their outings.
Salvador Perez
2-for-3, 2 RBI
Salvador Perez officially hit the 100 RBI mark in this game, becoming one of the few catchers over 33 to have such a season. He would get his first RBI on the night in the third after Bobby Witt Jr singled in a run by singling Bobby in. In the fifth inning and for RBI number 100 on the year, “Salvy” drove in Kyle Isbel on another single. With a handful of games left on the year, “Salvy” could land at the top of that list of catchers over 33 with nine more RBIs needed to pass Ted Simmon’s mark of 108.
Key Highlights
The offense was good in this one. There were three players with multi-hit games in Tommy Pham, “Salvy”, and Kyle Isbel. Multiple players had an RBI on the day and the offense had 11 hits. Tommy Pham would have a solo home run late to add insurance to the lead and Kyle Isbel would be driven in twice. Michael Massey had a two-walk game as well. Overall, the offense did good and had some clutch hitting to go along with some great pitching.
Summary of the Next Game
Looking for a huge series win in a potential playoff matchup, the Royals will send out Cole Ragans (11-9, 3.34 ERA) to face the Bronx Bombers. The Yankees will also counter with a young pitcher in Luis Gil (13-6, 3.24 ERA) to make this an interesting matchup of young arms.
