Singer struggles, Kirby stifles the Royals offense

Final Score SEA 6 | KCR 2

Overall Record 25-18  (3rd in the AL Central)

  • L: Brady Singer (3-2, 2.84 ERA)
  • SV: Andres Munoz (6)

Royals Player of the Game

Michael Massey: 1-for-4, 2 RBI

It was hard to find a player of the game in this one as the Royals struggled both on the mound and at the plate. Massey was dominated by George Kirby the entire game but managed to rip an RBI double in the top of the eight against reliever Ryan Stanek. He led the offense in RBI so naturally it seems fitting to give him the player of the game.

Key Highlights

It was not a great start for Brady Singer at all. Singer found himself behind the count quite a bit and leaving many sliders and sinkers over the plate. He rarely went to his fastball up in the zone, which is where the Mariners struggle the most. Singer through 108 pitches over 5 innings as well he had super long innings in the 2nd and 3rd innings, where he gave up the four runs across those two innings. Singer just was’t sharp and seemed to just focus on his slider and sinke, ignoring the rest of his pitch mix.

The Royals couldn’t get anything done against Mariners right-hander George Kirby. He had his A stuff going and limited the Royals to three hits. As mentioned above, Massey brought the Royals within two in the top of the eighth, but Andres Munoz replaced Stanek to shut down that rally. Chris Stratton came into the bottom of the eighth and gave up a two-run home run to Luke Raley which basically sealed the deal in this one.

Summary of the Next Game

The Royals play game two of the series against the Mariners today at 8:40 pm CT. RHP Michael Wacha (2-4, 5.15 ERA) takes the mound for the Royals against RHP Logan Gilbert (3-1, 2.94 ERA). It will be another tough test for the Royals offense.
