Spring Training Recap – 2/28/24

Final Score: KC 9 | SEA 7

Overall Spring Record: 5-2

Key Highlights

Brady Singer: The Royals’ starting pitching continues to dominate in spring training. Singer had a great first outing of the spring, allowing just one hit (double) over two innings with three strikeouts and no walks. It looks like Singer was able to mix in an effective changeup today, which continues to be an area of growth for him. A big story for him this season continues to be the development of a consistent third pitch, and he alluded to focusing on his four-seamer and sweeper this offseason. At this point, we will even take the elusive changeup if it means more outings like today.

Chris Stratton: I am sure this was not the Royals debut that Stratton was hoping for. In just one inning pitched, he allowed three hits and four earned runs with one walk and one strikeout. A single scored the first run, followed by a three-run homerun from Cal Raleigh. There is plenty of time to bounce back from this rough first outing before the regular season rolls around.

Bobby Witt Jr.: It was encouraging to see Bobby get his first hit of the spring today, helping the Royals get back in the game during a six-run 6th inning. He also added a walk and a stolen base to an all-around solid day.

Nick Pratto: I could get used to seeing Pratto rake like this. He added two singles and an RBI to an already impressive start to spring training, bumping up his batting average to .500. This spring is huge for Pratto as he hopes to crack the Royals’ 26-man roster to start the season.

Offensive get-right game: It was refreshing to see the Royals have a 6-run inning followed by a 3-run inning shortly after. It has been a slow start for the offense this spring, despite the 5-2 record. The pitching has been keeping the team in games up to this point, so it was nice to see the hitting return the favor on a day the pitching did not have their best stuff overall. A three-run homer from Kyle Isbel and a three-run homer from Ryan Fitzgerald helped the Royals take a lead on separate occasions.
