Storm Chasers’ May hitter and pitcher of the month

The month of May might have been the best month of baseball that Omaha has played in nearly 20 years. In fact, it was their most wins in a single month (23) since 2005. As of June 3, they hold a 5.5-game lead for first place in the International League, are third in the league in batting average, and are first in team ERA. The Storm Chasers have been clicking on all cylinders and have been incredibly impressive as a unit, making it hard to narrow down this month’s top performers. I hope to still have this problem by the time June’s awards roll around!

Hitter of the month

Devin Mann

May stats: 22 G, .356/.473/.575, 1.048 OPS

7 2B, 3 HR, 14 RBI, 16 BB, 23 K, 1 SB

Devin Mann posted eye-popping numbers in the month of May (Insert “He is the Mann” joke here). He began the month by earning International League player of the week honors and kept the momentum going from there. Not only was he getting on base nearly half the time, but he was also hitting for power, with 10 of his 26 hits going for extra bases. He also held an impressive 14.9% walk rate. Mann has been about as consistent of a presence in the lineup as one can be for the Storm Chasers, and it is paying dividends for the group.

Pitcher of the month

Evan Sisk

May stats: 10.2 IP, 3-0 record, 0.00 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, 16 K, 3 BB, .167 OBA

Sisk was acquired by the Royals in a trade with the Twins in January 2023. After a tough 2023 season in the Royals’ system, he is making major strides with the Storm Chasers this year. He pitched in big spots this month, notching three wins from the bullpen. He lowered his season numbers to a 1.71 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. The left-handed reliever is making his case to join a struggling Royals’ bullpen in the near future.
