Royals Player of the Game
Salvador Perez
3 for 5 , 3-run HR, 5 RBI
Salvy provided the bang tonight for the offense. After a paltry start to the night for the Royals, Salvy got the bats going with a 3-run shot to cut into the 7-run deficit. That then sparked a seventh inning rally from the Royals that saw the team score four to make it a 8-7 game. Salvy drove in two more in that inning on a single to continue a renaissance year.
Key Highlights
The bats were pretty cold most of the night, but the top of the order showed some life going 7 for 18 with 6 RBI’s, 5 of which were Salvy’s. Outside of them, the rest of the order went hitless with two walks. This offense is proving to be really streaky early on this year and tonight showed some of that. Other notes, Dairon Blanco got his first hit on the year after pinch hitting for Kyle Isbel and Adam Frazier got on-base again.
The pitching was less than ideal tonight, specifically with Cole Ragans. He had a strong first inning striking out three hitters while giving up a hit then the second unraveled on him. The Orioles were looking to make contact and they did by fouling off almost 20 pitches in Ragans 40+ pitch second. He gave up 9 hits, 7 ER and saw his ERA rise to 4.32. Outside of him, the bullpen kept the Royals in the game but gave up two more runs.
Summary of the Next Game
The Royals will look to win the series against Baltimore tomorrow at 1:10. The Royals will be sending out Seth Lugo (3-0, 1.05 ERA) who looks to continue the best start to a season he has had. The Orioles will be sending out Cole Irvin (0-1, 6.75 ERA) who looks to put together a good start against the Royals. The last matchup saw the Royals score four runs when they went to Baltimore.
