Michael Wacha

6 IP, 1 ER, 7 K’s, 2 BB’s

On a night where both starters were dominant for most of the game, Michael Wacha kept up with Logan Gilbert. In fact, by the time of the sixth Wacha outdueled Gilbert as he gave up a home run to give the Royals the lead. For most of the game the Mariners looked to take this game after a solo homerun from Luke Raley and Gilbert shutting down the Royals with ease. Wacha kept the team in the game and he was awarded the win.

Key Highlights

The offense came from an unlikely source in this game as Nelson Velazquez hit a 3-run shot to give the Royals the lead. While he played hero for the offense, he also struggled striking out three times in the game as well. Maikel Garcia drove in another run in the eighth to add more insurance. Outside of that the offense was mostly quiet with five hits and three walks on the night.

The pitching outside of Wacha was great as well. John Schreiber is still shutting down everyone and he went 1 and 2/3 giving up no runs, striking out one and walking none. He lowers his ERA to a 0.90 on the year and looks to be one of the better setup men in the league. James McArthur grabs his tenth save, but he gave up another run in his four out save. He has given up runs in four of his last five outings.

Summary of the Next Game

The Royals look to take a series win over the Mariners in their next matchup. The boys in blue will be sending out Alec Marsh (3-0, 2.53 ERA) who is coming off a solid start against the Angels. The Mariners will send out Bryan Woo (0-0, 0.00 ERA) who left his first start of the year against Oakland with forearm tightness.
