Royals Player of the Game

Bobby Witt Jr.

3-for-4, 2 Hr’s, 6 RBI’s, 1 SB

It has been nearly two weeks since BWJ’s last visit to dong town, May 8 to be specific, but tonight he gave the Royals a twofer. He had a three run shot in the second off Casey Mize, who had a rough day, and a solo shot off Jason Foley. Add in a first inning RBI single and a third inning sac fly and BWJ had a career day. Just listen to the sound off the bat of his first bomb.

Key Highlights

This game showed how dominant this offense can be. The Royals had a four hit day from Maikel Garcia who is riding a nine game hitting streak. Just about everyone got involved offensively, except the struggling MJ Melendez (more on that in a later post). Salvy and Kyle Isbel had two-hit days and Hunter Renfroe hit a homerun. Outside of Melendez, it seemed the offense could do no wrong this evening.

The pitching was also good tonight as Alec Marsh collects another quality start. He had a rough fourth inning, but outside of that he was his usual self striking out five and limiting quality contact. The bullpen shut the door as Angel Zerpa continues his stretch of goose egging opponents. Zerpa has not allowed a single run in a month. Sam Long made his debut and was clean and Nick Anderson had two K’s in his one inning of work.

Summary of the Next Game

The Royals look to continue winning as winners of five straight and look to sweep the Tigers. It will be a battle of the Aces (or secondary ace) as Cole Ragans (3-3, 3.70 ERA) will face Tarik Skubal (6-0, 1.80 ERA). In the last outing against the Royals, Skubal went seven strong only giving up one run early and shutting the door afterwards.
